Untitled vs Obsidian · Updated October 2026

Obsidian is a workshop. Untitled is a desk.

Both keep your work as files on your own disk, so you're not trading away ownership either way. The difference is how much of your weekend you want to spend configuring it.

Download for Mac

Pick Untitled if your work is more than Markdown: PDFs, decks, photos and Word files, laid out on a canvas, searchable by what's in them, with an AI coworker and no plugins to choose.

Stay on Obsidian if you love plain-text Markdown, a plugin for everything and a graph of linked notes, or you need it on Windows, Linux or your phone.

Why Obsidian people try Untitled

Not everything is a note. Your real work is a PDF contract, a Keynote, a folder of scans. Untitled opens all of it inside the app and puts it on the same canvas as your pages.

Zero plugins to babysit. Search by meaning, photo search, version history and an AI coworker come built in. Nothing breaks after an update because a plugin author moved on.

See it, don't graph it. Folders show what's in them, piles fan open, and you put things where they make sense to you. Spatial, not a hairball.

Bring the folders you have. Link any folder you already use, Obsidian vault included. Untitled shows it in place and never moves or copies a thing.

Where Obsidian is still better

We'd rather you pick the right app than the wrong one with our name on it.

Plain-text purity. If every note must be a .md file you can grep in twenty years, Obsidian is built around exactly that.

Plugins. Obsidian's community has built almost anything you can think of. Untitled is one opinionated app.

Every platform. Obsidian runs on Windows, Linux and phones today. Untitled is Mac only for now.

Questions

You can link any folder on your Mac into Untitled, including a vault. It shows the files where they are and doesn't move or copy them.

If you live in Markdown and enjoy building your own system with plugins, Obsidian. If your work is a mix of files (PDFs, decks, photos, documents) and you want it on one canvas with search by meaning and an AI coworker out of the box, Untitled.

Yes. Both keep your work on your own disk. In Untitled, everything but the AI coworker works without a connection.

Try it on your own files.

Point Untitled at a folder you already have. Nothing moves, nothing uploads. For macOS 26 and newer.
