Untitled vs Apple Notes · Updated October 2026

Apple Notes is for notes. Untitled is for the work around them.

Notes is fast, free and already on your Mac, and for a shopping list it's perfect. But your work isn't a shopping list. It's folders, PDFs, decks and photos, and Notes doesn't see any of them.

Pick Untitled if you want your notes next to the files they're about: the proposal PDF, the client folder, the photos, all on one canvas and searchable by what's in them.

Stay on Apple Notes if you mostly jot things down on your iPhone and want them on your Mac a second later. It's free and syncs through iCloud, and Untitled isn't on iPhone yet.

Why Notes people add Untitled

Notes doesn't know about your files. The proposal is in Downloads, the brief is in a client folder. Untitled puts your pages right next to them on one canvas.

Room to spread out. A list of notes is fine for ten things. For a project, you want to see the pieces. Stack them, fan them open, put them where they make sense.

A coworker, not just a rewrite button. Ask it where a project stands and it reads the files, lays out the timeline and links what it used. Ask it to tidy a folder and it does, with one ⌘Z to undo.

Your library is files. No export dance. Your pages and folders are normal files on your disk that Finder can open.

Where Apple Notes is still better

We'd rather you pick the right app than the wrong one with our name on it.

Your iPhone. Notes is on every Apple device and syncs instantly. Untitled is Mac only today.

Quick capture. For a thought in the queue at the shop, nothing beats Notes on your phone.

Sharing. Notes can share a note with someone and edit it together. Untitled can't yet.

Questions

For work on your Mac, it can. Many people keep Notes for quick capture on the iPhone and use Untitled for projects: pages, folders, PDFs and photos on one canvas.

Inside the Notes app's own storage and iCloud, not as files you can open in Finder. Untitled keeps your library as normal files in a folder on your disk.

Not yet. Untitled is a Mac app today. A web version and syncing across Macs are on the way.

Try it on your own files.

Point Untitled at a folder you already have. Nothing moves, nothing uploads. For macOS 26 and newer.
