Untitled vs Notion · Updated October 2026

Notion is a great wiki. It's a strange place to keep your work.

Untitled is the Notion alternative for people whose work already lives on their Mac: the folders, PDFs, decks and photos Notion never sees. It puts all of it on one canvas, and writes like Notion when you want a page.

Download for Mac

Pick Untitled if your work is files, not databases. Your PDFs, Word docs, slides and photos stay where they are on your Mac, you can search them by what's in them, and nothing needs a connection except the coworker.

Stay on Notion if your team edits the same pages at the same time, or your life runs on relational databases. Notion is better at both, and Untitled isn't trying to be a team wiki.

Why people leave Notion for Untitled

Your files never made it into Notion. The contract is a PDF in Downloads. The deck is in a client folder. The photos are in iCloud. Notion only knows about what you rebuilt inside it. Untitled starts with what's already on your Mac and lays it out on a canvas.

You stopped building systems. Templates, linked databases, a dashboard you made one Sunday and haven't opened since. Untitled has no setup. Drop things on the canvas, stack them, and let search and the coworker do the remembering.

Offline shouldn't be a setting. In Notion you choose which pages to keep offline, per device, ahead of time. In Untitled it's just how the app works. Your library is on your disk, so a plane, a train or bad hotel Wi-Fi changes nothing.

Search that reads. Look up “coffee” and get the folder, the latte photo and the proposal that mentions it. Untitled searches by meaning and looks inside images, all on your Mac.

A Mac app, not a tab. Untitled is written in Swift for macOS. It opens fast, it scrolls like Finder, and ⌘W, ⌘O, Space for Quick Look and ⌘Z do what your hands expect.

AI that does the job, then gets out of the way. Ask the coworker to sort a messy folder, rename a pile of scans or draft a page from three PDFs. It does it, shows you what changed, and one ⌘Z puts everything back.

Where Notion is still better

We'd rather you pick the right app than the wrong one with our name on it.

Teams. Shared workspaces, comments, permissions and live co-editing are what Notion is built around. Untitled is for your own work, for now.

Databases. Relations, rollups, formulas and a dozen views. Untitled has tables in pages, not a database engine.

Everywhere. Notion runs on Windows, the web and your phone. Untitled is Mac only today, with more Macs and a web version on the way.

Questions

For personal work, yes. Untitled has Notion-style pages (blocks, the / menu, [[ links, tables, checklists), and it adds what Notion can't do: it works with the files and folders already on your Mac, opens PDFs, Word docs and slides inside the app, searches by meaning, and runs offline. If you need a shared team wiki, Notion is still the better fit.

Partly. Notion's desktop and mobile apps can keep pages offline that you mark ahead of time, per device, and features that need live data, like Notion AI, don't work without a connection. Untitled keeps your library on your own disk, so everything except the AI coworker works offline by default.

No. Notion keeps your pages on its servers and the desktop app is a client to them. Untitled keeps your library as normal files in a folder Finder can open, and folders you link in stay exactly where they are.

Yes. Pages have blocks, a / menu, [[ to link a page, Tab to nest, tables you can paste spreadsheet cells into, checklists and quotes. Markdown shortcuts like -> and ⌘U work as you'd expect.

It depends on why you're leaving. If your work is mostly files (PDFs, decks, photos, documents) and you want them on one canvas with search and an AI coworker, try Untitled. If you want plain Markdown and plugins, Obsidian. If you only need quick notes, Apple Notes is already on your Mac.

Pricing isn't announced yet. Until it is, you can download Untitled and use all of it.

Try it on your own files.

Point Untitled at a folder you already have. Nothing moves, nothing uploads. For macOS 26 and newer.
